NEW: Process Model for Hybrid Construction and Modular System Construction – Guideline of IG Life Cycle 2022
October 2022
The Working Group on Hybrid Construction and Modular System Construction of IG Lebenszyklus, which was established in spring 2022, published a detailed guide for the future successful project management of hybrid and modular buildings in October 2022. Together with numerous prominent players in the construction industry as well as pioneers of prefabricated construction methods, Jörg Koppelhuber has in this interdisciplinary working group has helped to develop a practical guideline in order to provide clients, investors and developers as well as planners, but also contractors, on the one hand with clear definitions (see guideline p. 4-6) of these often synonymously used terms in prefabricated construction and, on the other hand, to allow a clear classification of modular and hybrid construction methods with different building materials (see p. 7).
Above all, however, an innovative process model was jointly developed, which enables a temporal and also procedural (re)structuring of complex hybrid and system buildings, in which the conventional process flow in planning and execution is considered integrally and an ideal-typical process model is derived (see guide p. 14 /15), which allows an interweaving of planning and execution – in different stages and intensities in the form of an alliance model (Var. A), a total company (Var B) and a start-up first planning then execution (Var. C) – for better and, above all, more successful project execution.
The finished guide was presented at the IG Life Cycle Congress in mid-November 2022.
The feedback from numerous players in the construction industry on this guide confirms the topicality and necessity of this guide, as well as the realistic approach explained therein to this often still too little considered integral approach within the framework of projects.
